♦The simple present tense: spelling rules ♦

When a verb ends in s,sh,o,x,z. Add es to the 3rd person singular (he,she,it).
Examples:

When a verb ends in y and the previously letter is a consonant change they to i and add es.

 
 Example: study/studies


When a verb ends in y and the previously  letter is a vowel add s to the third person singular.
